Pequeña Torta Dulce (trans. Sweet Little Cake)

This sweet little cake was for a friend at work. It's a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting (Esme's favorite.)

I've started collecting platters and plates that I can use for my cakes. This is one of my favorites that I bought at a great antique store in Shelley, Idaho. It's milk glass but I'm not sure from which decade.

Apple Jacket

How darling is the little apple sweater? I would love to see this on my desk staying cozy and safe until I'm ready for lunch.

Salt Lake Foodies

I went to our first cooking and recipes meetup group last night. We all brought appetizers and discussed future meetings. The food was amazing and the conversation was interesting. I was very impressed with the potato samosas and spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce. I can't wait until everyone posts their recipes.

I made smoked salmon and cucumber bites. They were pretty but definitely not as intricate as the other recipes from the group. My appetizer wasn't really cooking more just assembling.

Triceratops

I love this dinosaur pencil sharpener. You sharpen your pencil in his belly and when you put him down he walks away. I bought two of these at Christmas time and gave them both away as gifts. I might have to buy another for me!

Pearls

Dave surprised me with these pearls on my birthday. This is my third strand. I know pearls seem old fashioned and dowdy. But I think pairing unique colored pearls with modern styles is interesting and adds a bit of retro glamour. Thanks Dave, I'm wearing these today.

Cock-a-Doodle Katie

Nick isn't the only one with a pet chicken. Here's Katie dressed in her Halloween costume. She really loves it as you can see.

Taste of Cake

This is the first cake I ever made with fondant. I have been making cakes since high school but was always a little reluctant to use fondant. My sister-in-law Debbie bought me a beautiful decorating book for Christmas. I looked at the pictures and thought there is no way I can do that. About a year and half later after studying the directions I attempted this jungle scene for Debbie's 23rd birthday. Ever since then I've used fondant on nearly every cake I've made.

Starting a Blog

So, I've decided to start a blog. I'm not committed to a particular theme. But since my interests usually stem from good design and/or cake decorating the bulk of my posts will probably be of that nature.

My good friend Nick has decided to raise chickens. The idea of a bachelor who lives in the middle of the city with a box of baby chicks is so cute to me.
